Belair National Park is South Australia's most historically significant trail running destination and one of the closest genuine trail-running environments to Adelaide's CBD. Located just 13 kilometres southeast of the city centre, the park combines rich colonial history, diverse native ecosystems and an extensive trail network that caters to everyone from beginner trail runners to experienced ultramarathon athletes.

Established in 1891, Belair National Park was South Australia's first national park and remains one of the oldest protected landscapes in Australia. Today, runners explore a network of more than 26 mapped trails winding through Grey Box woodland, towering gum forests, seasonal creeks and peaceful lakes. Wildlife encounters are common, with kangaroos, koalas and native birdlife frequently seen throughout the park.

One of the most popular options is the Waterfall Hike Circuit, a 6.5-kilometre route that showcases many of the park's most scenic features. For runners seeking greater distance, the Adventure Loop extends to approximately 15 kilometres, while the challenging Perimeter Loop covers 17.5 kilometres with substantial elevation gain and a genuine trail-running feel.

The variety of terrain is one of Belair's greatest strengths. Smooth fire trails allow comfortable cruising, while narrow bush tracks demand greater focus and technical skill. Combined with the park's proximity to Adelaide and its strong local trail-running community, Belair remains one of the state's most important outdoor recreation destinations.
