Deep Creek Circuit & Coastal Walks

Deep Creek National Park is South Australia's premier coastal hiking destination, preserving more than 4,000 hectares of rugged wilderness on the southern Fleurieu Peninsula. Located approximately 100 kilometres south of Adelaide, the park combines dramatic Southern Ocean cliffs, secluded coves, dense native forest and some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in the state.
The park's signature experience is the Deep Creek Circuit, a demanding 12-kilometre loop that showcases the diversity of the landscape. Beginning at Trig Picnic Area, the trail traverses exposed ridgelines with sweeping views across Backstairs Passage to Kangaroo Island before descending into lush creek valleys and sheltered gullies. Along the route, hikers encounter towering eucalyptus forest, grass tree-covered hillsides and abundant native wildlife including kangaroos, echidnas and blue-tongue lizards.
One of the walk's highlights is Deep Creek Waterfall, one of the few permanent waterfalls on the Fleurieu Peninsula. Flowing year-round and at its most impressive during winter and spring, the falls provide a striking contrast to the exposed coastal landscapes elsewhere in the park. Further along the trail lies Deep Creek Cove, a remote rocky inlet where the creek meets the Southern Ocean. Accessible only on foot, the cove rewards hikers with a genuine sense of isolation and wilderness rarely found so close to Adelaide.
The ridgeline sections deliver some of South Australia's best coastal views, with panoramic vistas stretching across Kangaroo Island, the Pages Islands and the rugged coastline of the Fleurieu Peninsula. Between June and October, these elevated lookouts become exceptional whale-watching locations as southern right whales and humpbacks migrate through Backstairs Passage.
Deep Creek National Park offers a hiking experience unlike anywhere else near Adelaide. The combination of coastal wilderness, challenging terrain, permanent waterfalls, wildlife encounters and remote ocean scenery makes it one of the state's most memorable outdoor destinations.
